This dataset is the definitive set of annually released community board/local board boundaries at 1 January 2018 as defined by the territorial authorities and/or Local Government Commission, and maintained by Stats NZ. Community boards are set up under the Local Government Act 2002 and Local Electoral Act 2001.

Local boards also fall within the community board classification. Local boards were introduced as part of the new local government arrangements for Auckland in 2010.

Digital boundary data became freely available on 1 July 2007. This generalised version has been simplified for rapid drawing and is designed for thematic or web mapping purposes.

MB2018_V1_00_Centroid_True is the true centroid point layer for the major released version of the annually released meshblock boundaries for 2018. The "true" centroid is the centre of mass of that polygon, such that if some flat substance of uniform thickness and density were cut into the shape of that polygon, then that object would balance at the centroid. The centroid is a useful way of summarizing the locations of a set of polygons as points, particularly when used for comparative analysis. Note that the centroid could potentially fall outside the meshblock polygon, depending on the shape of the polygon. The dataset contains the EASTING and NORTHING attributes of the centroid point in NZGD2000 New Zealand Transverse Mercator (EPSG:2193) and LATITUDE and LONGITUDE of the centroid point in decimal degrees in WGS1984 (EPSG:4326) projection. Non-digitised meshblocks cannot have a centroid.

A geospatial dataset showing provisional data for incidence rates of work-related injury claims, and claims involving entitlement payments, for 2016, by geographic region.

Work-related claims measure claims accepted by Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for work-related injuries.

This dataset contains incidence rates of work-related injury claims for the 2016 calendar year, calculated by Stats NZ. Incidence rates are the number of work-related claims per 1,000 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). FTE figures are as estimated by Stats NZ’s Household Labour Force Survey. Entitlement payments include death benefits, weekly compensation, lump sum, and rehabilitation payments.

All figures presented in this dataset are provisional because claims for injuries that occurred in 2016 can still be updated and filed. Final work-related claim figures for 2016 will be released in 2018.

Geographic regions are groupings of territorial authorities (TAs). In most cases, regional boundaries follow TA boundaries. Where the TAs straddle more than one geographic region, they are assigned to the region containing the greatest proportion of their population.

See www.stats.govt.nz/browse_for_stats/health/injuries... for the report this data accompanies.

MB2015_V1_00_Centroid_Inside is the inside centroid point layer for the major released version of the annually released meshblock pattern as at 1 January 2015. The "inside" centroid is a point which always falls inside each Meshblock polygon as this is desirable in some users' cases. The placement of the point is typically in the widest part of the polygon. The algorithms used are proprietary to ESRI and are related to label placement. Note that the "inside" centroid is NOT always the same as the centre of gravity ("true" centroid) of the polygon as in some situations the true centroid may fall outside the meshblock geometry. This version contains 47,046 Meshblock inside centroid points. Non-digitised meshblocks do not have have an inside centroid.

This dataset is the definitive set of annually released territorial authority boundaries at 1 January 2018, clipped to the coastline. This clipped version has been created for map creation/cartographic purposes and may not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. A territorial authority is defined under the Local Government Act 2002 as a city or a district council. Territorial authorities are the second tier of local government in New Zealand, below regional councils.

Digital boundary data became freely available on 1 July 2007. This generalised version has been simplified for rapid drawing and is designed for thematic or web mapping purposes.

This is the definitive set of area unit boundaries for 2006 as defined by Statistics New Zealand as at 1 January 2006.
Area units are aggregations of adjacent meshblocks with coterminous boundaries to form a single unbroken surface area (land and/or water). Exceptions to this rule are some area units comprising collections of geographically related inlets and marinas.
In an urban location, an area unit is often a collection of city blocks, while in rural situations area units may be equated to localities or communities. Area units must either define or aggregate to define urban areas, rural centres, statistical areas, territorial authorities, and regional councils.
Each area unit must be a single geographic entity with a unique name. The area unit pattern is revised once every five years in the year immediately before a Census of Population and Dwellings. There may also be changes in other years, in conjunction with local body boundary changes. Statistics New Zealand maintains a concordance file to ensure boundaries relating to earlier area unit patterns can also be generated.
