This dataset was last updated on Stats NZ Geographic Data Service on 22 May 2018.
The 2013 Census usually resident population count, household, and occupied dwellings (private and non-private) data has been rebased to the 2018 meshblock geography and is shown according to the new statistical geographies and urban rural classification developed as a result of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas 2018 (SSGA18) review. The data is experimental and is provided as a guide to understanding the impact of the new geographic boundaries on the previous census counts.
Note: This data has been randomly rounded to protect confidentiality. Individual figures may not add up to totals, and values for the same data may vary in different tables.
For further information see the attachments below: Information about data; 2013 Census counts on SA22018 lookup; and ANZLIC Metadata 2018 Statistical Area 2.
For 2013 Census usually resident population counts by statistical area 2 2018 and area unit 2013 see attachment: Census 2013 population counts by SA22018 and AU2013.
Please note that a review of SA2 names was undertaken in early 2018. The review addressed issues with inconsistent naming and applied corrections, resulting in an update to this dataset applied in May 2018. All SA2 codes are unchanged.

This dataset is the definitive version of statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries concorded to higher geographies as at 1 January 2018 as defined by Stats NZ.
This version contains 2,253 SA2s. This statistical area 2 higher geographies file is a correspondence, or concordance, which relates SA2s to larger geographic areas or 'higher geographies'. The higher geographies contained in this concordance are: territorial authority (TA) and regional council (REGC).
Statistical area 2 (SA2) is a new output geography that provides higher aggregations of population data than can be provided at the statistical area 1 (SA1) level. The SA2 geography aims to reflect communities that interact together socially and economically. In populated areas, SA2s generally contain similar sized populations.
Digital boundary data became freely available on 1 July 2007. This generalised version has been simplified for rapid drawing and is designed for thematic or web mapping purposes.
Please note that a review of SA2 names was undertaken in early 2018. The review addressed issues with inconsistent naming and applied corrections, resulting in an update to this dataset applied in May 2018. All SA2 codes are unchanged.

This dataset contains census usually resident population counts from the 2006, 2013, and 2018 Censuses by statistical area 2. It contains counts by age groups for the 2006, 2013, and 2018 Censuses, and percentage changes between the 2013 and 2018 Censuses.
The life cycle age groups are: under 15 years, 15 to 29 years, 30 to 64 years, and 65 years and over.
These statistical area 2 boundaries extend to the 12 mile limit and are as at 1 January 2018, for further information see Statistical Area 2 2018 (generalised).
This data uses fixed random rounding to protect confidentiality. Some counts of less than 6 are suppressed according to 2018 confidentiality rules. Values of ‘-999’ indicate suppressed data.
For further information see the attachments below: Information about the data (2018 Census population age groups by SA22018), 2018 Census population age groups by SA22018 lookup, 2018 Census population and age groups by SA22018.

This dataset is the definitive set of annually released statistical area 1 (SA1) boundaries at 1 January 2018, clipped to the coastline. This clipped version has been created for map creation/cartographic purposes and may not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. SA1 is a new output geography that allows the release of more detailed information about population characteristics than is available at the meshblock level. SA1s are defined at meshblock level.
Digital boundary data became freely available on 1 July 2007. This generalised version has been simplified for rapid drawing and is designed for thematic or web mapping purposes.

Wards were originally set up within any territorial authority with a population of 20,000. Wards are defined under the local Electoral Act 2001 and result from the division, of the district of a territorial authority for electoral purposes. Ward boundaries are reviewed in the year immediately preceding the triennial local government elections. Wards are numbered based on their corresponding territorial authority. Each ward has a unique five digit number. The first three digits represent the territorial authority that the ward lies within. The following two digits are sequential, and represent the number of wards within a territorial authority.

This dataset is the definitive set of territorial authority boundaries for 2015 as defined by the Local Government Commission and/or the territorial authorities themselves but maintained by Statistics New Zealand (the custodian). A territorial authority is defined under the Local Government Act 2002 as a city or a district council.

MB2015_V1_00_Centroid_Inside is the inside centroid point layer for the major released version of the annually released meshblock pattern as at 1 January 2015. The "inside" centroid is a point which always falls inside each Meshblock polygon as this is desirable in some users' cases. The placement of the point is typically in the widest part of the polygon. The algorithms used are proprietary to ESRI and are related to label placement. Note that the "inside" centroid is NOT always the same as the centre of gravity ("true" centroid) of the polygon as in some situations the true centroid may fall outside the meshblock geometry. The dataset contains the EASTING and NORTHING attributes of the centroid point in NZGD2000 New Zealand Transverse Mercator (EPSG:2193) and LATITUDE and LONGITUDE of the centroid point in decimal degrees in WGS1984 (EPSG:4326) projection. This version contains 47,046 Meshblock inside centroid points. Non-digitised meshblocks do not have have an inside centroid.
