Regional tourism organisation boundaries are meshblock based and were created by dissolving groupings of ward and territorial authority areas. This version or regional tourism organisation boundaries extends to the 12 mile limit. Regional tourism organisations are responsible for the promotion of their regions to prospective domestic and international visitors. This version has been developed with input from Regional Tourism New Zealand.
Note: Not all 37 categories representing regional tourism organisation areas are currently operating as regional tourism organisations at the time of publishing. Those areas not operating as regional tourism organisations are: Kawerau (06), Rangitikei (14), Tararua (16), Horowhenua (18) and Waimate (28).
Fiordland includes Fiordland National Park, Manapouri, Te Anau, and Te Anau Downs areas with the rest of the area assigned to Southland. Where a regional tourism organisation area boundary crossed a meshblock the meshblock was assigned to whichever regional tourism organisation area the majority of the meshblock fell within. The meshblocks crossed by regional tourism organisation areas boundaries are: 3174500 Fiordland 3175100 Fiordland 3173403 Southland 3172802 Southland 3172804 Southland 3172100 Fiordland 4004893 Fiordland 3191600 Fiordland 3191701 Fiordland 3192300 Southland 3192400 Southland 3193400 Fiordland.
The classification relating to this version can be viewed and downloaded from the Stats NZ classifications management system Ariā: Regional Tourism Organisation Areas V3.0.0.

This dataset contains the inside centroid point layer for the annually released statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries as at 1 January 2020.The "inside" centroid is a point which always falls inside each SA2 polygon as this is often desirable. The placement of the point is typically in the widest part of the polygon. The algorithms used are proprietary to ESRI and are related to label placement. Note that the "inside" centroid is NOT always the same as the center of gravity ("true" centroid) of the polygon as in some situations the true centroid may fall outside the SA2 geometry. The dataset contains the EASTING and NORTHING attributes of the centroid point in NZGD2000 New Zealand Transverse Mercator (EPSG:2193) and LATITUDE and LONGITUDE of the centroid point in decimal degrees in WGS1984 (EPSG:4326) projection.

This dataset contains the true centroid point layer for the annually released statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries as at 1 January 2020. The "true" centroid is the centre of mass of that polygon, such that if some flat substance of uniform thickness and density were cut into the shape of that polygon, then that object would balance at the centroid. The centroid is a useful way of summarizing the location of a set of polygons as points, particularly when used for comparative analysis. Note that the centroid could potentially fall outside the SA2 polygon, depending on the shape of the polygon.

This dataset is the definitive version of statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries concorded to higher geographies as at 1 January 2019 as defined by Stats NZ.
This statistical area 2 higher geographies file is a correspondence, or concordance, which relates SA2s to larger geographic areas or 'higher geographies'. The higher geographies contained in this concordance are: territorial authority (TA) and regional council (REGC).
Statistical area 2 was created as part of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas 2018 (SSGA18) which replaces the 1992 New Zealand Standard Areas Classification (NZSAC92). The statistical standard for geographic areas is to be used from 2018 (SSGA18). It defines the Stats NZ input and output geographic classifications and describes their primary purposes, and sets out requirements and guidelines for the creation and maintenance of statistical geographies.
Statistical area 2 (SA2) provides higher aggregations of population data than can be provided at the statistical area 1 (SA1) level. The SA2 geography aims to reflect communities that interact together socially and economically. In populated areas, SA2s generally contain similar sized populations.
Digital boundary data became freely available on 1 July 2007. This generalised version has been simplified for rapid drawing and is designed for thematic or web mapping purposes.

This dataset is the definitive version of annually released statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries concorded to higher geographies for 2020 as defined by Stats NZ. this version contains 2,255 categories.
This statistical area 2 higher geographies file is a correspondence, or concordance, which relates SA2s to larger geographic areas or 'higher geographies'. The higher geographies contained in this concordance are: territorial authority (TA) and regional council (REGC). For more information on the individual higher geographies, refer to each geography’s metadata.
SA2s were introduced as part of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas 2018 (SSGA2018) which replaced the New Zealand Standard Areas Classification (NZSAC1992). The SA2 geography replaces the (NZSAC1992) area unit geography.
Names are provided with and without tohutō/macrons, as applicable. Column names for those without macrons are suffixed ‘ascii’. For further information on individual higher geographies, refer to each geography’s metadata.

This dataset contains the annually released statistical area 2 (SA2) boundaries for 2020 as defined by Stats NZ, clipped to the coastline. This clipped version has been created for map creation/cartographic purposes and so does not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. This version contains 2,173 SA2 categories.
SA2s were introduced as part of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas 2018 (SSGA2018) which replaced he New Zealand Standard Areas Classification (NZSAC1992). The SA2 geography replaces the (NZSAC1992) area unit geography. This version contains 2,173 SA2s.
SA2 is an output geography that provides higher aggregations of population data than can be provided at the statistical area 1 (SA1) level. The SA2 geography aims to reflect communities that interact together socially and economically. In populated areas, SA2s generally contain similar sized populations.
SA2s are built from SA1s and either define or aggregate to define urban rural areas, territorial authorities, and regional councils. SA2s in city council areas generally have a population of 2,000–4,000 residents while SA2s in district council areas generally have a population of 1,000–3,000 residents. In rural areas, many SA2s have fewer than 1,000 residents because they are in conservation areas or contain sparse populations that cover a large area.
Names are provided with and without tohutō/macrons. The name field without macrons is suffixed ‘ascii’.

This dwelling dataset is displayed by statistical area 1 geography and contains information on:
This dataset contains counts at statistical area 1 for selected variables from the 2018, 2013, and 2006 censuses. The geography corresponds to 2018 boundaries.
The data uses fixed random rounding to protect confidentiality. Some counts of less than 6 are suppressed according to 2018 confidentiality rules. Values of ‘-999’ indicate suppressed data.
For further information on this dataset please refer to the Statistical area 1 dataset for 2018 Census webpage - footnotes for dwelling, Excel workbooks, and CSV files are available to download. Data quality ratings for 2018 Census variables, summarising the quality rating and priority levels for 2018 Census variables, are available.
For information on the statistical area 1 geography please refer to the Statistical standard for geographic areas 2018.
The ‘Total unoccupied private dwelling category, which had been overly suppressed for the ‘Dwelling occupancy status’ variable has been corrected in Rev. 7.
