This data is derived from ‘Sales by region in current prices - quarterly’ and ‘Estimated resident population for regional council areas, at 30 June(1996+)’.

The regional retail sales data has been aggregated to create data for calendar years(2012 - 2017), which have then divided by the population estimate for the relevant region and year, to create the per capita sales figures. Sales figures exclude GST.

Territorial Authority 2016 Generalised Version is the definitive set of territorial authority boundaries for 2016 as defined by the Local Government Commission and/or the territorial authorities themselves but maintained by Statistics New Zealand (the custodian). A territorial authority is defined under the Local Government Act 2002 as a city or a district council.

This dataset is the definitive version of the annually released regional council boundaries for 2020 as defined by the regional councils and/or Local Government Commission, and maintained by Stats NZ (the custodian). This version contains 17 categories.

The regional council is the top tier of local government in New Zealand. There are 16 regional councils in New Zealand (defined by Part 1 of Schedule 2 of the Local Government Act 2002). Eleven are governed by an elected regional council, while five are governed by territorial authorities (the second tier of local government), who also perform the functions of a regional council and are known as unitary authorities.

Auckland Council unitary authority was formed in 2010, under the Local Government (Tamaki Makarau Reorganisation) Act 2009, replacing the Auckland Regional Council and seven territorial authorities.The seaward boundary of any coastal regional council is the twelve-mile New Zealand territorial limit. Meshblock 2016 Generalised Version is the definitive set of meshblock boundaries for 2016 as defined by Statistics New Zealand

This dataset is the definitive set of the annually released urban rural boundaries at 1 January 2018, clipped to the coastline.This clipped version has been created for map creation/cartographic purposes and may not fully represent the official full extent boundaries. Urban rural is a new output geography that classifies New Zealand into areas that share common urban or rural characteristics. Urban areas are built from the Statistical Area 2 geography, while rural and water areas are built from the Statistical Area 1 geography. Urban areas are statistically defined areas with no administrative or legal basis. The urban rural indicator is an attribute of this classification and provides additional information about a location's urban or rural nature.

This dataset is the definitive set of annually released meshblock boundaries at 1 January 2019. Stats NZ maintains an annual meshblock geography for collecting and producing statistical data. This allows data to be compared over time. A meshblock is the smallest geographic unit for which statistical data is collected and processed by Stats NZ. A meshblock is defined by a geographic area, which can vary in size from part of a city block to a large area of rural land. Each meshblock borders on another to form a network covering all of New Zealand, including coasts and inlets and extending out to the 200-mile economic zone. Meshblocks are added together to build up larger geographic areas such as statistical area 1 (SA1), statistical area 2 (SA2), and urban rural. They are also used to define electoral districts, territorial authorities, and regional councils. The digital geographic boundaries are defined and maintained by Stats NZ. Meshblocks cover the land area of New Zealand, the water area to the 12-mile limit, the Chatham Islands, Kermadec Islands, sub-Antarctic islands, off-shore oil rigs, and Ross Dependency.

Regional Council 2016 Generalised Version is the definitive set of regional council boundaries for 2016 as defined by the Local Government Commission and/or regional councils themselves but maintained by Statistics New Zealand (the custodian).

A geospatial dataset showing provisional data for incidence rates of work-related injury claims, and claims involving entitlement payments, for 2016, by geographic region.

Work-related claims measure claims accepted by Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for work-related injuries.

This dataset contains incidence rates of work-related injury claims for the 2016 calendar year, calculated by Stats NZ. Incidence rates are the number of work-related claims per 1,000 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs). FTE figures are as estimated by Stats NZ’s Household Labour Force Survey. Entitlement payments include death benefits, weekly compensation, lump sum, and rehabilitation payments.

All figures presented in this dataset are provisional because claims for injuries that occurred in 2016 can still be updated and filed. Final work-related claim figures for 2016 will be released in 2018.

Geographic regions are groupings of territorial authorities (TAs). In most cases, regional boundaries follow TA boundaries. Where the TAs straddle more than one geographic region, they are assigned to the region containing the greatest proportion of their population.
