This dataset contains counts of people of Maori descent by the official language indicator from the 2013 Census. The data is presented at meshblock level and uses the 2013 Census boundaries. The variables provided are as follows:

  • Number of Maori Descent who speak te reo Maori
  • Number of Maori Descent who do not speak te reo Maori (includes no language)

This dataset allows for the comparison across areas to determine the strength or otherwise of te reo Maori language for people of Maori descent.

Notes:
Confidentiality rules have been applied to all cells in this table, including randomly rounding to base 3.
Unrounded counts of less than 6 have been confidentialised.
Individual figures may not add up to totals, and values for the same data may vary in different tables.
-999 indicates cells have been suppressed for confidentiality reasons

This dataset contains counts of young people aged 15–24 years who were not in employment, education, or training (NEET) during the 2015 calendar year. The report containing maps of this data can be found at www.stats.govt.nz/about_us/what-we-do/partnerships....
The data was provided by the Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) which brings together a wide range of data from government administrative sources and surveys.

These meshblocks are used as a basis to build the electoral population for each electorate. We calculated the electoral populations from the 2018 Census data using the formula specified in the Electoral Act 1993 and then apply two confidentiality rules: suppression of all unrounded counts below six (displayed as: ‘-999’) and random rounding to base three. Since the electoral populations of each meshblock are randomly rounded, the count for each meshblock could be different to the raw total by up to two when compared with the total electoral population for meshblocks from another source.

Data is provided with tohutō/macrons (UTF-8 format). To support users with the compatibility of the data and the applications they might be using, additional fields are also provided in ASCII format.

Meshblocks, which aggregate to form electorates, are updated annually by Stats NZ. The 2020 electorate boundaries reflect a number of minor technical adjustments to meshblock boundaries, not involving population i.e. to follow the correct line of a river or road. The adjustments are visible in a small number of land and coastal areas where electorate boundaries otherwise unchanged between 2014 and 2020 do not exactly align.

Note: This dataset contains the meshblock MB2020_V2_00 (version 2), a major released version of the annually released meshblock boundaries as at 17 April 2020. This version contains 53,582 meshblocks, or an additional two when compared with MB2020_V1_00 (excluding the 16 non-digitised meshblocks). This version reflects changes made to meshblocks for the 2019/2020 Representation Commission.

These boundaries comprise the seven Māori electorates released by the Representation Commission in April 2020. These boundaries will be used for the 2020 and 2023 general elections.

The Representation Commission is convened by the Surveyor-General, its role is to re-draw electorate boundaries to make sure each electorate has about the same number of people. We calculate the Māori electoral population, number of Māori electorates and electoral quota using the formula specified in the Electoral Act 1993. When setting the boundaries, the Representation Commission also considers existing boundaries, communities of interest (including iwi affiliations), the infrastructure that links communities (such as main roads), topographical features, and any projected variation in the population of those electorates during their existence.

Data is provided with tohutō/macrons (UTF-8 format). To support users with the compatibility of the data and the applications they might be using, additional fields are also provided in ASCII format.
